Top 3 Reasons
You Need Accident
Medical Coverage

Protect Your Savings - Accident Medical Coverage pays medical expenses from an accident not paid by your health insurance because you have not met your Annual Deductible or Coinsurance requirements, or are away from home (out-of-network).

Better Coverage - Accident Medical Coverage covers Dental, Physical Therapy, and hundreds of other items from an accident not covered by your health insurance--up to $10,000 per accident per person.

Save $1,000-$2,500 per Year - Accident Medical Coverage allows you to increase the Annual Deductible on your Individual or Employer health policy, saving you thousands each year on your premium or employee contribution.

How Much Accident
Medical Coverage
Do You Need?

Add your Annual Deductible to Your maximum Coinsurance--this is called your Out-Of-Pocket or OOP Max. Then add how much you want in coverage for items not covered by your health insurance if you had an accident (e.g. Dental, Physical Therapy).

Annual Deductible$500
Max Coinsurance+ $2,000
OOP Maximum$2,500
Dental, Physical Therapy, etc.+ $2,500
Acc Med Coverage$5,000

What do Out-of-Pocket Maximum and Annual Deductible Really Mean?

The annual deductible used to be the amount you pay until your insurance kicks in. Today, almost all policies require you pay an additional 10%-20% of your medical expenses, above the deductible, up to $10,000--this is called coinsurance. The real number you should use to compare policies is out-of-pocket maximum--your annual deductible plus the maximum amount of coinsurance you could pay up to the maximum benefit of your policy.

Health Insurance Does Not Cover All Your Medical Expenses

If you are healthy and lead a healthy lifestyle, you may have a greater risk from having an accident than from having an illness.

Accident Medical Coverage pays for all medical expenses related to an accident (after the first $100), including Dental and Physical Therapy.

Pays your Annual Deductible, Coinsurance, Dental, Physical Therapy, and other medical expenses when you have an accident.

Cost of Accident Medical Coverage (per month)
Coverage
per Accident
$1,000 $2,500 $5,000 $7,500 $10,000
Individual $15 $25 $40 $50 $60
Family $30 $50 $70 $80 $100
These prices, which are 1/2 the cost of similar coverage, are only available if you have health insurance (including Medicare). Accident Medical Coverage is not a substitute for health insurance.

How Much Could an Accident Cost Me?

Every health insurance policy requires you to pay 100% of your medical expenses until you reach your Annual Deductible, typically $250 to $5,000 a year.

After you reach your Annual Deductible, most policies also require you to pay 10% - 20% of your next $10,000 of medical expenses—this is called Coinsurance.

An accident such a breaking a leg could cost $15,000. Even if you have a $1 million health insurance policy, you could be required to pay $4,500 before your insurance covered the balance up to $1 million.

Deductible/Coinsurance from Accident
Annual Deductible ($2,500) $2,500
Coinsurance (20% of $10,000) + $2,000
Your Responsibility $4,500

Most health insurance policies do not fully cover Dental, Physical Therapy, Ambulance, and other expenses you could incur if you have an accident, and most policies reduce benefits if you have an accident away from home (out-of-network).

After an accident you might require $1,500 in Dental work to replace a lost tooth, or three months of Physical Therapy care at $300/month, or incur an Ambulance bill of $600—all of which may not be covered by your health insurance.

Uncovered Expenses from Accident
Dental Work $1,500
Physical Therapy + $900
Ambulance + $600
Your Responsibility $3,000

How Can This Save Me Money?

Accident Medical Coverage can not only save you money if you have an accident, Accident Medical Coverage can also help you save you $2,500 each year on your health insurance premium.

The higher the Annual Deductible on your Individual, Family, or Employer-Sponsored health insurance policy, the lower your Monthly Premium or Employee Contribution.

Typical Family Health Insurance Savings
$500 vs $2,500 Annual Deductible
$500 Annual Deductible $500.00/Month
$2,500 Annual Deductible - $260.00/Month
Monthly Premium Savings $240.00/Month

You Can Typically Save $240/month, $2,880/year by raising the Annual Deductible (per person) on your Health Insurance by $2,000.

However, you may not be comfortable accepting the higher risk of having a $2,500 Annual Deductible per person on each family member. Or, you may want better coverage if you or a family member has an accident.

You can obtain $2,500-Benefit Accident Medical Coverage for your family—this pays you up to $2,500 per accident in medical expenses for each member of your family (no limit on number of accidents).

This saves you $212/month, $2,544 a year, and provides you better coverage ($100 deductible) in the event of an accident or injury.

Accident Medical Coverage provides benefits for medical expenses that result from an accident or injury—it does not provide benefits for medical expenses due to an illness.

Information on this page does not refer to a specific product, policy, or membership—all examples are only for purposes of education. Accident Medical Coverage described on this page can be obtained several ways including: (1) Contacting Zane Benefits to obtain a health insurance policy or plan offering protection against accidents; (2) Contacting Zane Benefits to purchase a standalone Accident Medical Coverage policy; (3) Lowering the Annual Deductible and/or coinsurance requirement of an existing employer-sponsored or other health policy; or (4) Joining an association that provides multiple benefits of membership, one of which is accident medical coverage—similar to the way some people join AAA for a package of benefits (maps, discounts) along with roadside assistance coverage at a better price than roadside assistance coverage might cost alone.
